Do you remember that when we were children we constantly wanted to be big - to be able to decide for ourselves what to do, where to go, to have responsibilities. We were always playing mothers and fathers, newlyweds, adults with amazing jobs. Just to get to every adult's dreams, their dreams of the most magical time - childhood. To run in the yard, to read in a hidden place and then to the point of exhaustion to imagine playing with Peter Pan, chasing the White Rabbit with Alice, climbing on rooftops with Carlson, making mischief with Pippi, Tommy and Anika.

What is International Children's Book Day?

International Children's Book Day is celebrated on 2 April. The date also coincides with the birthday of Danish writer Hans Christian Anderson. The aim of the day is to create and develop a love of reading in children.

International Children's Book Day was first celebrated in 1966. It was organized by Jela Lepman, founder of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), and is designed to encourage families, teachers and children around the world to participate in reading events in their local communities. Each year, a different IBBY International Section hosts a children's book event. The host country chooses a theme and invites a well-known author and illustrator to create a message for children around the world.

Canada is an official sponsor of International Children's Book Day 2022. And the theme for 2022 is: Stories are wings that help you soar every day written by author Richard Van Camp.

The love of reading is something that is built in a child not by force and not at any price and the initiatives that take place every year show exactly that. What was your favourite story as a child?
