Kristen Lasch's debut novel definitely set the bar very high. I don't remember ever looking forward to a book so much (apart from Harry Potter, but that's another topic). I pre-ordered it because I just couldn't stand it. My expectations were completely met. Once again, Benitorial Publishing have surprised me with another wonderful story that starting I just can't put down and don't want to end.

"The Porcelain Doll is a book that touches on quite a few themes. The twists and turns and unexpected moments are a page away, it keeps you guessing and you feel especially excited when you read it. A wonderful adventure that begins as a fairy tale, about a far away kingdom in Moscow. Each time I was transported partly into the story of Anastasia. And believe me, to some extent this book hides its Rasputin too.

Rosie is our main character who loses everything overnight. She is left alone with her mother and due to a coincidence she moves to London. That's how she grows up. She starts studying at Oxford University, has a wonderful fiancé. She has begun to build a wonderful future. But something kept pulling her back. She's tormented by countless questions she can't answer. The only thing she has from her previous life is a notebook, from her mother, which has creepy fairytale stories. Maybe it's that, or the fact that she wants to find out everything about her past, that sets her on a journey into the past. Where it all began.

Back in Moscow, the story begins to unravel horribly. She learns stories about her family, following her mother's tales, and at the heart of it all is Tonya, a young noblewoman as graceful as a porcelain doll. But what she has to do with it, and who Tonya really is, I think you'll have to read for yourself, because it's a mystery that isn't talked about, or told, or mentioned. You have to experience this tale without end.

A wonderful book is "The Porcelain Doll." A long story about love, family, war, childhood. About what you can bear to learn and what reality really is. Whether it's better to live in pink or if everything happens for a reason.
